What makes a person, an artist who has several decades of international cinematic success behind him, break down and start a new life? People's artist of Russia, winner of many domestic and foreign awards, world-famous film Director Andrey Konchalovsky entered the theater world in 1987, staging the Opera "Eugene Onegin" in Italy at the La Scala theater... In the film, viewers will be able to trace the creative – almost twenty years! – the path of the Director in the performing arts, to see unique moments of rehearsals, fragments of his theatrical productions – the Opera "the Queen of spades" with outstanding artists Mirella Freni and Vladimir Atlantov, the acclaimed performance "Miss Julie" on the stage of the Moscow theater on Malaya Bronnaya, "War and peace", staged at the Mariinsky theater, the Metropolitan, as well as fragments of Grand outdoor performances staged by A. S. Konchalovsky.

1979. Andrey Konchalovsky's film Sibiriada receives a special jury prize at the Cannes film festival. For the Director, this becomes a bridge to another world. Having received permission from the authorities to go abroad for a year, Konchalovsky refuses to return and requires a passport for permanent residence abroad... However, it seems that Konchalovsky himself does not yet understand that from now on his life will be divided into "before" and "after". That now all his subsequent paintings will be compared with the previous ones. And even when he returns to Russia 10 years later, his wanderings in search of his own "I" will not end...

The film “Andrey Konchalovsky’s Cinema Odyssey” is a tribute to the creative path of one of our outstanding contemporaries, Andrey Konchalovsky, spanning from his debut film, “The Boy and the Dove”, which was immediately invited to the Venice International Film Festival, to the present day. The documentary features notable figures who starred in the master’s films, from Sergei Shakurov to Tom Holtz, from Inna Churikova to Irina Kupchenko. Dividing his work into ‘periods’ — classical, American, and the perestroika era — Konchalovsky, with the help of the cinema, embarks on a cinematic journey akin to Odysseus, ultimately returning to his own ‘Penelope’: Moscow.
